Frodo-WIN32 4.0.1
ftp://ftp.std.com/pub/jrs/Frodo-WIN32-4.0.1.zip
This is Christian Bauer's C64 emulator Frodo ported to WIN32. It
runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 only. It requires DirectX
support in your video driver. See the docs for all the gory details.
Features:
* all standard Frodo features except SAM (an emulator debugging tool)
* fully documented
* full audio support
* adaptive audio driver which can run faster or slower than full speed
* real joystick support
* full keyboard support
* joystick emulation on the keyboard
* full screen and windowed modes and live toggle between them
* 8, 16, 24, and 32 color depth support
* GUI preferences dialog
* LED bar
* speedometer
* menu (including insert next disk, full screen, etc.)
* integrated help via installed Web browser and local docs
* viewport support
* quantized resizable window
* runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
I have tested some machines I have access to and it can easily run
full speed emulation with sound without skipping any frames in both
windowed and full screen modes on a P133. Most any pentium class
machine should be usable. YMMV.
Included in this preliminary distribution:
* Frodo.exe - the basic Frodo C64 emulator, line-based, very fast
* FrodoPC.exe - another line-base version that supports jumps to I/O space
and precise cycle counting, a little bit slower but more compatible
* FrodoSC.exe - the ultimate cycle-based emulator, supports almost all
timing and raster effects, much slower
* Frodo.fpr - a sample Frodo preferences file
* Docs - directory of html documents used for the online help and
requires that a web browser be installed and associated with html files
Not included in this preliminary distribution:
* ROMs - get them from the main Frodo distribution at
http://www.Uni-Mainz.DE/~bauec002/FRMain.html
* source code - I am merging source with Christian into a formal release

Great! My wish has come true! Now I can delete Linux! :)

So, we have to download the AmigaOS distribution, un-LHA it,
and get the roms from there?

I think that the PC world has an lha de-archiver, unless it's un-supportive
of UNIX archivers, then it doesn't have one. Lha originated on UNIX.

That annoyed me as well. Oh well, it's worth the effort. I got the
source distribution, as WinZIP seems to cope okay with .tar.gz. Now
all I need is a computer four times faster. :-/

I misunderstood what was included in a normal Frodo binary
distribution. I have repackaged Frodo-WIN32-4.0.1.zip with the ROMs
and 64prgs directory like the other Frodo binary distributions. In
any case, you could get them from the source distribution but it is in
.tar.gz format.

Way to go Richard! Thanks - looks great.

Some video drivers have bugs in which DirectX does not work correctly
in windowed mode. I tested this with DirectX sample programs so I know
it is not a bug in Frodo-WIN32. Try switching to fullscreen mode and
see if it works. Or try using a slightly different resolution or color
depth and see if the problem goes away. Or try getting new drivers.

Thief of Fate is number 3. Well, it was when I last played it. Since
that works okay, I assume that you're talking about BT2?
I can't help you with your actual problem though, sorry!
All Magnetic Scrolls fans:
The Pawn, Jinxter & Fish! seem to work perfectly (if slowly). Haven't
tried their other games.
Very promising product.
Seamless support for d64 and t64...good
Ken
I tried that version of bardstail I think it's the one you're having trouble
with, and you're right, it won't work. But I tried using star commander to
copy bards tail to a cbm disk and it works perfectly on there. I just
thought I'd write this to show that it's not the disk that's at fault, it's
the emulators.

>What if only a black screen appears?
I had the same problem. For me it seemed to be caused by using the ROMs
from PC64. I changed to the ones included with the Frodo source and it
worked fine.

Very good. But I'm having troubles with the numpad joystick because
stinking Win32 doesn't like my REAL joystick. For some reason, not
all programs will listen to it. I know Num Lock flips the port, but
I keep seeing that Swap Joysticks option get checked and that's
screwing something up. Anyone want to shed light on this?
Also, what's that "Can't erase surfaces" complaint when I try to use
DirectX to run it in 320x200x256?

Hey JRS, why do you fantastic coders always use the wrong 64 palette??
We've got the correct one in GoDot. Please visit my site and link to [C64
Palette] until you see the table of HEX values for each color. Even if my
site is still German, you'll find this information useful (I hope)!
i'm still having that problem - i deleted PC64 because it completely
sucked, dl'd frodo, and it just gives me a black screen and a message
saying "Basic ROM not found." there's no sort of configuration file or
anything in the archive i dl'd - what can i do to get it working? i
don't want to have to install linux just to play c64 games...

I've got one of those. It's called a C64. :)
