For the past six months, I've been converting Commodore 64 game
themes into General MIDI
Now, the Web page of my efforts is available

These are not conversions of the original binary: they are
lovingly recreated from the original
pieces by ear, mixed in stereo, with proper drum tracks and
orchestration, but still staying
faithful to the originals. Remember Rob Hubbard's Sanxion tune
on Zzap 26? They're as
good as that, soundcard permitting!

BTW, Rob has actually heard these tunes, and liked them. He's
still at EA, but is now a project
manager and has given up composing. Married with a mortgage, he
hopes to take up composing again someday.

Tunes available so far:
Monty on the Run (Main theme and high score)
Thing on a Spring
Action Biker
Roller Coaster (good old Bogg!)
Sanxion (much different to the aforementioned tape)
Cybernoid 2
Wizardry
Master of Magic
One man and his Droid
Crazy Comets

Requests taken: this is an ongoing project: this is just volume
1.

For people without soundcard: Email for details of how you can
get these on audio tape for
the price of the tape and postage!

EMail me at ABB...@DELPHI.COM with comments, requests of
chitchat.

Though i like bikergs.mid most, the other tunes aren't bad either.

Wow, Chris has worked miracles on Roller Coaster!! I think I need a new
sound card. Seeing as you're taking requests, how about:

Shockway Rider
Lightforce
Mutants
Arcade Classics
Zoids

although the last two might not translate too well.

ZOIDs - this has to be some of the best music ever in any game on any format.

Thanks for your kind posts. I'm taking note of all the requests!

Currently awaiting release are:
Lightforce
Space Harrier (2 tunes out of four)

Other tunes actually started:
International Karate
Delta
Kentilla
Spellbound (not much of this done, actually)

Knucklebusters and Zoids seem to be the most popular requests. The space
harrier tunes were actually grabbed off C64 emulator music by a utility
on the Amiga called "Sid2MIDI", and sent to me. So was the Delta theme.
Even if lots of people produce versions of the same tunes, it would still
be great, since I love listening to any versions of the tunes! The more
the merrier. ETA for Knucklebusters: 3 weeks. ETA for Zoids: 4 weeks.
Please allow 28 days for delivery!

Thanks to all who have emailed me. I appreciate your support!

Hi to Lee Hicken, and Rochus Wessels, (Rochus was doing this before me, using
Sid2 MIDI and then arranging the pieces, his pieces will appear on my WWW
page.

BTW: Zoids is one of Rob's favourites.

BTWBTW: I plan to get around to most pieces worth doing... even the Delta
in-game theme. Now THERE's a challenge!

Try to find Synergy's 'Audion' album that came out around 1981/2. This
synthesizer album contains the track that Rob Hubbard converted for the
game Zoids. It also contains the theme song for the game 'Master of
Magic', another Hubbard classic not actually written by the man himself.
