I am using AppleWin and I live it! I owned an apple II back in 1983 and
this really brings back some memories.

I have noticed that a lot of people on this list use the Apple APC
emulator instead of applewin. WHy is this? Apple win seems clearly
superior because it is a windows 95 program that runs in a window.

One big reason: Apple PC is much FASTER than AppleWin.
AppleWin's got better looking graphics, but applepc is a million
times faster and has much better sound.

Full screen is nice, graphics look better (mono option, DHR looks
much better), Mockingboard simulation, mouse support, serial ports,
speed-speed-speed, hard disk simulation, etc.

ApplePC runs much faster for me. Just because it's a Win95
program does not means it's better. I had an easier time getting mocking
board and the harddrive working in ApplePC (does this even work in
AppleWin). AppleWin's only plus is that it has a high resolution mode.

Well, I use both emulators. AppleWin is nice because its native to win95,
but I really like the debugger in it. AppleWin's debugger is much more
developed than the one in ApplePC. Unfortunately, AppleWin lacks QUITE a
few features, and it hasnt been updated in OVER A YEAR (March 1995 Beta).

ApplePC runs well in a win95 dos box, and it supports harddrive images, MOUSE
emulation, fullscreen graphics, monochrome modes, emulator speed toggling
on the fly (keypad + and -), mockingboard, true serial card emulation (use
your modem and printer), and you can save the entire state of the machine,
and load it back up again.

Maybe they use it because Windows95 sucks...Besides, ApplePC supports much
more of the old apple ii stuf than applewin (mockingbird, better sound, hard
drive, better speed)

AppleWin is very fast! ON my p100 it runs 14 times faster than an apple
//e. Needless to say, at this speed all the games are unplayable so I
usually set the AppleWin emulator to the original //e speed (1mhz.)

As for the mockingboard, only a few //e games supported it. I had one
on my apple // and was disappointed with the mocking board because of
the lack of support.

Why do you need harddrive support when the AppleWin emulator loads disk
images at harddrive speed? Its not like i'm actually gonna start using
appleworks as my word processor or somethin. All I want to do is run old
//e games for nostalgia reasons.

One of the best thinks about AppleWin is that its in a kewl looking
window that multi-tasks very well in win95. I love to play old apple
games in AppleWin while I am waiting for an internet dload to finish.

I hope that it won't be long before a new version of APPLEWIN arrives.
In my opinion this is by far the best alternative in Apple ][ emulation,
but requires hardware that enables optimum performance.

Running Applewin in a fully 32bit environment like Win95/NT is truly
awesome and brings back the true Apple-feeling we all love.

For the new release of Applewin my wishing list would be:

- Printer support
- Harddrive support
- Windows compliant text editing.

Best regards

Hey,
Where can I get an emulator that runs on my WFW 3.11 system. AppleWin is suppos
supposed to work on win 3.1 if you use the applew31.exe file, but it doesn't
work on mine.

My screen flashes DOS screen that says "This program cannot be run in DOS mode."

Any help?

Also where can I get ApplePC?

Please e-mail responses to mit...@sendit.nodak.edu

Thanks,

Mitch Keller
