How can you turn off the gutter progress bar that appears, e.g., when
loading a file? It's a real nuisance when you're running xemacs on a
remote host.

Does frobbing the variable `progress-feedback-use-echo-area' help?

I had already done that. It does help but I was hoping to turn the
functionality off altogether.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Rick.
