After many many confusing hours this afternoon I have finally
discovered that XEmacs is not (supposedly) able to run the JDE under
Windows 9x, as the command.com is a 16-bit application and for some
reason XEmacs chokes with that (the "Error spawning child: incorrect
binary format" errors).

Does anyone know how to massage the JDE (http://metalab.dk/jde) into
working under Windows 9x with XEmacs? I'd rather not be using two
different versions of Emacs between my desktop and my laptop if at all
possible (and I XEmacs is better anyway).
