Well, I have a simple question pertaining to GVIM on Windows (I don't know
if there's a similar problem on Linux, I use command line VIM there as my
preference, and console-based VIM automatically has a black backround). How
can you change the background and foreground colors in GVIM? I have browsed
through the options several times, and I may just have missed those
pertaining to bg/fg colors, but I don't know. It doesn't seem to be a
syntax highlighting problem to me, as it's not syntax highlighting. Thanks
for any insight you can offer. :-)

I don't use Windows, so I can't help you if it's a specific problem.

These options should help:

hi Cursor guifg=black guibg=#a0a000
hi Normal guifg=grey guibg=black
hi Visual guifg=white guibg=black

Read ":h highlight-gui".
