On the Vim in my CentOS distribution, when I'm in command mode the cursor is a filled-in square, but when I'm in Insert mode the cursor is a thin vertical line. This is also how my version of MacVim works on my Mac. I really like this feature, as it makes it super easy to tell which mode you're in. What is this setting and what version of Vim have it?

not sure if this is right pointer, but after looking at

http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Configuring_the_cursor
http://vim.wikia.com/wiki/Change_cursor_shape_in_different_modes

there is some dependency wether you use a terminal or a gvim, but the
the first URL explains pretty good what is possible.
