So its saturday night, and i get this call from a verizon tech. he's
asking me if my problem was solved and if my service is ok. after
scratching my head for a sec, I realized he's referring to a call to
tech support I made over a week ago. I told him if i could wait a week
for a response then it didnt really matter anyway.

Then he gets down to his real reason for calling. he starts asking me
about my config, and told me that I am violating the network policy by
taking down more than one ip address on my acct. (I do occasionally log
on to 2 machines each of which are connected to a hub connected to the
modem, so that each machine can log on independently, no proxy
software, no router, no cross-pc dependencies, very convenient. Each
gets it's own ip address)

further, he told me if it doesnt cease in 24 hours, they will cancel my
account.

So, now I've got a netgear rt314 on order, (and it also inspired me to
order covad on my other phone line which i need for redundancy anyway),
but in the meantime, i was wondering, was he bluffing? how easy is it
for them to really detect this? unless they are specifically monitoring
a specific acct? also i could find no 'network policy' anywhere on
banet's website. I'm a bit paranoid now about accidently getting signed
on on both machines, but maybe thats all he hoped to achieve.

Here is the policy you looking for under Verizon...
https://support.bellatlantic.net/members/whats_new/updatetos.html

Important Updates to Your
Terms of Service

Bell Atlantic and GTE completed their merger on June 30, 2000 to
become Verizon Communications. On August 1, 2000, the Terms of
Service, with which you agreed to comply when you registered for Bell
Atlantic.net, were modified to reflect our new name, Verizon Internet
Services Inc. (VIS). VIS will provide you with access to Verizon
Online, formerly Bell Atlantic.net dial-up & ISDN Internet Access
Service, or, as applicable, Verizon Online DSL, formerly Infospeed DSL
with Bell Atlantic.net Internet Access Service.

In addition to these name changes, we also modified Section 2.3 of the
Terms of Service to clarify types of authorized users. Please remember
that you may only use your account for one log-on session per
connection type (e.g. DSL, ISDN, or analog) at a time. You may not use
more than one IP address per log-on session. DSL customers may connect
multiple PCs within a single location to their DSL line (home
networking) and access Verizon Online DSL through a single DSL account
and a single IP address.

Please remember that under Section 4.1 of the Terms of Service, you
agree to visit this Web site periodically to be aware of and review
any such revisions. By continuing to use the Service after revisions
are in effect, you accept any revisions to the Terms and Conditions
and agree to abide by them. Click here to view the Terms of Service
