>>1 - Reader Questions

> Thanks for the newsletter, which I find most interesting.

I live in Dubai at the moment, and have only just come across telephony. I use
Delta3... or I did until a couple of weeks ago.

UAE (united Arab Emirates) permits one ISP. This is a state controlled one,
which has a proxy server. They block all telephony software... we users have to
dial abroad thro the state telephone lines at quite exhorbitant costs. The
costs are so high that that is the primary reason for my subscribing to Delta3.
Is there any way round this that you can suggest? I have a large family in UK.
I need to keep in touch with them. Is there any suggestion that you might have?
Is there any organisation that you know of who might be able to help?

Let me know, please. Tom langley tom.l...@usa.net

> I would like to know if you have at your company any interest in
terminating minutes in the Middle East areas. Especially in Lebanon and
surrounding Countries ?

The Problem:
Sometimes you have a user that needs to be mobile. You can give them a

> Finance Research Company Utilizes E-Mail Management Solution To Improve
Customer Service and Operational Performance

When Wall Street on Demand -- a research service company who sells financial
information to investors via phone and fax service - took its business to the
Internet a few years ago, the company watched in amazement and some trepidation
as the e-mails began pouring in. In the following months, the volume of
incoming e-mails grew at an explosive rate, shooting up to a couple hundred
messages a day.

> Full-service marketing firm improves customer satisfaction and increases
efficiency

O’Sullivan Communications, Inc. is a full-service marketing firm specializing
in developing advertising and public relations campaigns for small- to mid-size
businesses. Keeping in touch with clients is imperative in advertising and
public relations and at O’Sullivan Communications, something more than an
answering machine was needed to stay informed and make clients feel secure.

> How do you manage 18,000 to 25,000 faxed pages per month?

Carfax had a fax server system in place, but was unhappy with its performance
and the support that came with the product. Employees at Carfax were too,
evidenced by their continued reliance on stand-alone fax machines to take care
of business. Employees spent hours daily standing at fax machines to send out
reports to car dealerships.

> Technology training and consulting firm in Dublin, OH cures "message
overload"

Over the last several years, Babbage Simmel has grown at a
rapid rate and recently they began to experience message overload. " We had
calls constantly coming into our receptionist, who spent almost all of her time
directing callers to the correct extension," Rick Haggard, Babbage Simmel and
Associates Director of Operations said.  "On top of all the calls we were
receiving, we were inundated with faxes coming and going.

> Wisconsin's Racine County Human Services Department Serves Up Solution

Until about four years ago, each site used its own separate
phone system. However, with employees occupying so many different buildings and
offices throughout the county, the department discovered that it desperately
needed a unified system. Employees were wasting a lot of time trying to connect
to each other, not to mention the frustration the public felt when trying to
call the right place.

> California Vendor Handles Rapid Growth by Ramping Up Its Call Center

As Ramp Networks continued to grow, it began to receive more
and more calls to its call center from both VARS and end-users. To begin with,
Ramp Networks had only a simple telephone system with voice mail. The phone
rang five or six times and if the engineers were unable to take the call, the
caller would be sent to voice mail, Roger Cummings, Ramp Network's Director of
Technical Support said.  The engineer's goal was to try to return those calls
within a couple of hours, but there was no mechanism in place to ensure this,
Cummings added.

> Kansas-Based Company Gets a Handle on Critical Document Management

For years, Koch Industries had been relying on a variety of
methods, including the U.S. Post Office, to get critical documents to
customers and suppliers. You name it, and Koch Industries sent it
out-invoices, bills of lading, ship notices, purchase orders, and more.
Admittedly, many of those methods were a bit slow and user-intensive, and,
therefore, costly. In fact, when the company analyzed the cost of
mailing just one simple document to just one customer or supplier, the
results were surprising.
