Hi,

I have a question regarding Quad Sync.
We have the CN router with Quad Sync ILI(ACE32-8M) and 8.12 fix 12.
Each interface of Quad Sync Modules have connection E1 line.
Some Quad Sync do not operate.
If we connect 1 or 2 E1 link, it's no problem. But when connect 3 or more E1, all interface of Quad Sync are not working.

Question:
1. The Sync interface support up to 6Mbps. Can each interface of Quad Sync connect E1 or more line at a time?

2. If yes, What's problem above case?

Please tell me any advise.

Regards,

Hi there!

I don't know if this is any help, but I recently installed a quad-sync
module in an ASN. It didn't work properly at first because the router
was running 10.01, and on reading the release notes I had to upgrade to
a minimum of 11.02 (or thereabouts).

I can't comment on the CN - I've never come across them "in the flesh"
as it were, but the software level seems rather low given the current
release numbers (I appreciate that the CN is a fairly old router
compared to some).

My point is, could it be that you need a higher release of software?

Mike.

Hi

I remember having a similar problem some time ago and the fix was to
disable hardware filters on the card.

I cannot remember which version of software it was associated with.

Well, if it IS the software release, then I'm glad to know about it now,
since we're planning on putting a Quad-sync in one of our BCN's next
month... which just happens to be running on 8.12!

As I recall, quad syncs are as old as dirt. They were around for the vme
chassis clear back to 5.7x code.

Ed,

The Quad Sync ILIs have been around for some time. However, Raymond is
correct that the Quad Sync net modules for the ASN platform are
relatively new, and as such do require a minimum revision of BayRS in
order to operate.

I'm running then in asns with version 11.0.

For the quad sync modules on the ASN platforms a minimum of 11.0 is required.
But I have that the 12.0 software has a problem PPP and the quad sync card.

Joe,

I will double check, but I'm faily certain that QSYNC in the ASN was
added in 10.0, but either way it is definitely in 11.0.

So, assuming that the ASNs are running 11.0 as you indicated, you have
met the minimum software rev requirement.

Manolo,

I'm not aware of a software bug in 12.0 with regards to PPP on the ASN's
QSYNC net module. Around 11.02 we did change the MTU for PPP on all Sync
interfaces, and therefore it was possible to have interoperability
problems with PPP between BayRS versions if the MTU was not adjusted
correctly.

If you have a case number for a specific PPP problem you've encountered
with QSYNCs in ASNs, I would be interested in learning more about the
problem you encountered.

I don't think the Quad-sync could have been available in the ASN in
10.x, as I was running 10.02 and had to upgrade to 11.00 to get it to
work.

I would agree with that. Can't be fairer! :-)

Mmm, interesting one that - I'll need to bear that in mind when I come
to install a number of AN2's around the place, all of which will be
running 12.0 and linking into my ASN running 11.00....thanks for that
info Charlie!! ;-)

Say I have a Cisco and a Bay/Wellfleet router that I want to connect with
2 or 4 T1 lines. On the Bay can I define multiple default IP routes with
equal preferences, and will the Bay then load share across the multiple
lines? Assume PPP encapsulation; can't use MPPP because the Cisco doesn't
support it.

Post replies please, or send email after deleting all the odd numbered
characters from the following address (I begin numbering at 1 not 0).

Thanks.

Currently, you would need to run RIP or OSPF to have Equal Cost
Multipath.
There are three configurable methods of load balancing. We should be
supporting ECMP for static routes in the next feature release.
