What does "ip host-routing" do?
do you need it?

What can you do to lock down "floating" SNMP interfaces for Async* lines?
They don't seem to always be in the same address via snmp. How can
you always get the right one without pullingdown the list and picking
from the ASCII list the number representing like "Async4" at the momet?
moment?

Also, any way to lock a user down to a specific port via PPP?
I have 16 async's on a 10.3 IOS box with 16 users and now all users
can log into any line with THEIR userid and get access to the
"ppp /routing default" autocommand for that port.

host routing means that you don't want to enable any routing
protocols and that your communications server is configured
as a terminal server.. Basically, it still allows ip routing
among people logged into the com server, but not when they are
trying to get to a network that is not on the same subnet as the
com server.

I would say that 'need' is situational. You could do just fine
running routing protocols or running no routing protocols.
(i.e. ip routing.. no ip routing) but this allows you some
middle ground between those two options.
