looking to download rsp-dk9o3sv-mz.12.2-10a for a 7000 w/the RSP cards
installed to testing with CBAC. I looked into a smartnet contract in order
to be able to download the image from cisco. I was told this would run me
$4300. Is that correct? That's insane for a router that is EOL (I think
soon to be EOS).

$US4300 is average for the prices I find online for
CON-SNT-PKG16 (SmartNet Category 16 8x5xNBD). The least I found online
was $US3479, up to $5383 (found via shopper.com)

Please note that SmartNet contracts do not give authorization to
change Feature Sets, so if your current image is not rsp-dk9o3sv-mz
then you would need to purchase a software upgrade from Cisco (in
which case you would get a copy of the image anyhow.)

: That's insane for a router that is EOL (I think

EOS'd July 31, 1997. The RSP7000 EOS'd on May 11, 2000.
I do not see an EO Software Maint date for the 7000 itself;
the EO Software Maint date for the RSP7000 is May 11, 2004.
(This suggests that EO Software Maint for the 7000 without RSP was likely
July 31, 2001.)

In other words, your type of system is under software maint eligability
for another 3 years yet.

If it still seems unfair, consider it the other way: if the device
*were* EOL, then it would tend to get -quite- expensive for Cisco
to agree to extend their maintainance another year. SmartNet is,
after all, a maintance contract, not a software purchase.

Do you know how much the software upgrades go for, and the process involved.
Cisco's web site seems to always put you into a never ended loop always
pointing you towards the CCO, which does me no good.

Thx,
DMc

About $US15000 for the rsp-jk9o3sv-mz.12.2-10a that you corrected to in
another posting.

:and the process involved.

Just order it from a distributor. It's Cisco product S75AHK9-12210=
where the -12210 part varies according to the exact release. One
place that sells it is the following (I've never tried them):

http://www.ibuyer.net/prod~id~646640~CISCO_S75AHK9-12202T=.html

The price would be somewhat less expensive if you weren't
ordering the kitchen sink feature set, ENTERPRISE/FW/IDS IPSEC 3DES
The CBAC you are looking for is supported in the IDS feature set.
Perhaps you could get away with IP/FW/IDS IPSEC 3DES?
rsp-ik9o3sv-mz, product S75CHK9? That's about $US4000 less expensive.

The features that you would miss out by not getting
ENTERPRISE would be:
