TFTP Fails

When I attempt to copy a new IOS onto a Cisco 3640 via TFTP, the operation
fails only after a little bit. If I use the Cisco TFTP server the
application simply closes...if I use SolarWinds TFTP the TFTP server shows
an error stating the Remote Server Reset the Connection.

I have tried multiple IOS images, multiple computers (with different OS's)
and still no luck. So the only thing I can think of trying is to download
the IOS via the console. My problem is I can't seem to find the
documentation on how to do this...can anyone point me in the right
direction?

Thank you very much for your help, it is much appreciated.

Tftp is pretty solid in IOS. Try tftping the image from the server with
another client.
If you can transfer the image successfully, take a serious look at the
IP configuration of the 3640. If you really want to transfer the image
through the console port, ummm... I forget how to do that. I think you
have to boot to the monitor ROM- check out that documentation for
instructions. Be sure to set your baud rate faster than 9600. :)

I did verify the TFTP server was working properly with a client, and it did
in fact transfer the file. I double and triple checked the IP configuration
and everything was cool. I found the document and am currrently
transferring an IOS to it as we speak (at a blazing 115200 baud rate ;)...

Thanks for the response :)

If you did not delete the old image in flash there may not be enough space
to copy the complete image...

I ran into a similar issue with the Cisco TFTP server running on NT 4.0
upgrading a 3640. It seems that the 3640 sends some type of "check" packet
to the TFTP server before the transfer actually starts. That would crash the
TFTP server, but if I restarted the TFTP server, the upload would go off
without a hitch.

Plenty of flash space on the router to accept the image, so that's not the
issue. And I only saw it with 3640's, not 2651's, 7120's, 7206VXR's, or PIX
515's.

Maybe I'll get around to putting a sniffer up and seeing what's hapenning...
