Cisco techs have mentioned that the TACACS+ server source is available from
CIO under What's New. I didn't see it (I'm a registered user), and was
wondering where _exactly_ the server source was available?

And there is a specific place on CIO that has earlier TACACS things, so would
be *THE* proper place to put it, but it is NOT there. If the new version
is put elsewhere (bad idea) at least put a pointer to it clearly labeled
in the old place the other TACACS stuff is (I think it is in 'UTILITIES'
or something like that).

I already have TACACS+ so was just looking to see if it had changed recently,
but was totally frustrated seeking it on CIO.

The TACACS+ Daemon Source, API Guide and Users Guide are avialable
by FTP'ing to CIO.CISCO.COM using your registered username account
and password.

In the default directory:

tac_plus.v1.1.tar Unix Daemon Source
tac_plus.spec.v1.58.ps TACACS+ technical specifications
tac_plus.v1.1.users_guide.ps TACACS+ Users Guide

The reference to it has moved down the What's New page as other new stuff
has come along. The actual source has moved to Software Library->TACACS and
Utilities.

Check it out there....

Seconded! I think there must be a lot of people who would appreciate a posting
listing one or more sources of sample tacacs+ server code. cio promises
much in this regard (allusions to sample servers are in the release notes
on cio about tacacs+) but no server actually seems to be provided anywhere!

Pointers to tacacs+ servers and protocol specifications would be greatly
appreciated. Not only do I have an urgent need to use the ppp pap->tacacs
feature in tacacs+, but I also have another urgent need to write a backend
server to interface to a specific challenge response authenticator product
(hence the interested in the protocol spec as well as the sample code, though
the sample code is more important in the first instance)

cheers,

A really good xtacacs server is kept at ftp.navta.com and is written
by a strikingly intelligent person by the name vikas.

Check it out, you'll like it.
