Hi All,

Thanks a ton for all the help, Just have a query in mind. We have been
allocated an IP address space from APNIC for deploying it across our
infrastructure four months back, Due to some reasons, there has been
some delay in the deployment of the project & would take a couple of
months for start, I would like to know whether there is any time period
within which we would have to make use the address space, & whether
APNIC has such procdeures for the deployment cycle after allocation.

Kindly advice.

Thanks & regards,
Joseph.

Once you get an address block, it's yours to do with as you wish. How can
they tell whether you're deploying it or not?

ISP's/NSP's have to report IP address utilization to ARIN routinely. Those
blocks that don't show usage(via ping test, etc.) get targeted for
re-allocation.

Hmm, how will their ping determine whether or not IP addresses are used
on my Intranet? The Internet is not the only IP network there is you
know. See RFC1814.

It's true that ARIN audits address allocation. But since registered
address may be used on networks that don't have direct connectivity to the
Internet backbone (they may be behind a firewall) or the customer may
simply filter out pings, they don't require us to test them all. We just
have to provide a spreadsheet of who we assigned the addresses to and the
justification they gave for needing them. They check that the
justifications meet their criteria.

Hi All,

Thanks a ton for the replies, The IP Address space I am mentioning
about is aquired for the ISP infrastructure, & not for customer
allocation. Now APNIC does not seem to have any database wherein ISP's
are required to update the usage of address space allocated for the
Infrastructure. So how would they audit the usage.

I am really worried that the allocation has been made to us 3 months
back, & there has been a delay in the project, for which we have been
unable to utilize the address space, Is there any time frame for using
the allocated address space.

Pls advice

Thanks in advance.

Warm regards,
Vinod.
