The settings I use are:
9600 bits per second
8 data bits
no parity
1 stop bits
no flow control
When I plug the switch in, it displays it's start up tests and then
tells me to press Ctrl-Y...just like when trying over IP...however
this time there is no response. The screen remains the same no matter
how many times I hit Ctrl-Y. I've tried Windows Hyper Terminal and
Tera Term. Suggestions?
I've had problems with Hyper Terminal trying to connect to 450's. I don't
recommend even trying. Tera Term worked better for me, but what we
usually used was MS-Kermit.
For future reference: if you can't seem to get any connection at all,
or you get a bit of output and then everything seems to die, then
you've probably accidently set hardware flow control. "No flow control"
is what's needed for the 450's.
The 450's are very sensitive to cabling, and it is not uncommon to
end up in a situation where you can get output but not send input.
More than a handful of times I ended up trying all kinds of cablings
and gender benders, including ones that "logically" matched the
misplaced cable that I knew worked.
If I recall correctly, what the 450 needs is a straight through cable
that happens to have the same gender at each end. If you start
with a straight through cable and add a gender bender to get the
same gender of cable on each end, then unless you've paid special
attention to which gender bender you used, you very likely end up
with a cable that won't work.
I bought a female to female cable from Radioshack, works great. Thanks
for your help!
