Is it worthwhile getting a V92 modem if your ISP supports V90 only?
Looking at the improvements, there is
V.90
1) Quicker connection times
2) up to 48K uploading
3) Voice calls if phone company supports call waiting and your ISP supports
being on hold
4) Connection diagnostics
V.44
1) Better data compression
AFAIK, only parts 3) & 4) requires your ISP to support, all the other parts
do not require support from your ISP. Therefore it is worthwhile.
Is this correct?
Thanks

No.
Quicker connection negotiation is part fo V.92.
Up to 48K on the transmit is part of V.92
Call waiting is part of V.92
V.44 goes with V.92 and is not available with V.90, as far as I know.
The ISP must also support V.92 in order to get these benefits.
The Connection diagnostics are functions of the indiviudal modems and is not
tied to V.92 or any other protocol/modulation.
