Ok, the last weeks I've been paying attention to all news on the new
SupraFaxModem V32.bis and SupraFaxModem V.32. What kind of software do
you have to use for the send/receive fax ? Could I use this faxmodem
without trouble with my Amiga 500 ?

The prices which were mentioned earlier are very interesting. I do
live in Europe however, in the Netherlands. Does anyone of you know
whether it is possible to mailorder them via Computability ? Maybe if
there are more europeans interested, we can compile a larger order and get
a discount ? I've also read something about the Sysopplan. Can anyone
give me more details on this ? Thanks,

-Leon

Everyone said this modem (the SupraFax V.32) was going to be
available on the 15th.

Well, today's the 15th. Does Computability have it? Who else carries
it and has it in stock? (for a good price and be sure to state whether
it's the Mac, PC, or Amiga version!)

Ive never used a Supra V.32bis, but you have to be mistaken here (or else
itsnt really a V.32bis modem). V.32bis includes
14,400/12,000/9600/7200/4800 BPS rates.. if it only goes up to 9600 its
only a V.32 modem.

V.32bis includes V.32, saying them both is redundant, as is the
V.42 and V.42bis you list...

It's no problem ordering from the Netherlands if you have a credit card.
You can get a Mastercard from the 'Postbank' for 50 guilders a year.

I'll suggest you order thing express mailed (will cost around $21). Shipment
will take about 6 days, otherwise about 6 weeks.

remember that you're in trouble if the modem gets broken. Most companies
will not pay for shipment for warranty cases. So any repair will cost about
$42.

If you don't have a credit card, try to get as much bankinformation of the
company as you can. Most of them do have a 'Swift' address (it's an electronic
bank address) so your bank can wire the money.

Bert.

No, actually I was told it is really V.32bis. So I'm sorry about the
type, but it should read those higher BPS rates too.

Hope this clearifies the whole thing a bit.

I still have a dozen of those modems on back order, they have not shipped yet
as far as I am aware...

There is currently no "Amiga" version... You need to use 3rd party fax
software, actually the Mac and Windows versions are just fax programs included
(for $$$), and its the same modem the Amiga uses(And as far as I can find out,
the Mac version still needs a cable)...

I dropped most of the original msg.

Just what is involved in fax software? Has anyone written any 'freely
distributable' fax software?

BZZZT! again wrong answer. ALL the ads I have seen for this modem
state v32bis 14400 both Fax and DATA. maybe he just forgot to type it in?

I just called Supra. The rep said that the date has moved out
two weeks for the standalone version, and that bundled packages
with Windows software included will be available about 1 March. And, yes,
the bundled modem/software packages will be available on different
dates for Mac, IBM, etc. She gave me the whole schedule for standalone
versus bundled v.32/v.32bis modem release and I got so confused I didn't
memorize anything beyond the v.32 information which is what I was after.
For two modems and four bundled/standalone options, there were roughly
8 dates...

She also verified that WinFAX is the bundled software for the IBM Windows
package.

A friend of mine is thinking of writing some FAX software for the Amiga...
but he's got a GVC FAXmodem, not a Supra, so there's no telling how useful it
might be to you (and your colleagues here).
