Hey all I have tried everything on this newgroup and other sources...still
no joy.

I am not having the standard DNS issue that I see often around here.

My issue is I can't even ping the ATTBI Gateway through my linksys router!

So of course if I can't even ping this all other things are not going to
work.

Anybody else in Portland having this same issue? Wondering if it is a
regional issue?

My gate way I get on DHCP on my router is 12.224.0.1, which appears to be in
NJ?

All works fine if I modify the DNS and connect straight to the modem from
PC.

Any Help would be appreciated.

seattle.internet and seattle.forsale.computers have had a number of
discussions concerning this in the last few days.

All you need to do if you have xp is repair the connection XP will get a new
connection. If you have 98,ME release your network adresss and restart the
computer. I got my ATTBI working this way with linksys.

Ike,
you might verify that your Linksys is set correctly to request DHCP and
doesn't have any old static addresses in its configuration. If you can
ping your Linksys from your PC (usually Linksys LAN port is set to
192.168.1.1, then you should be able to go into the Linksys
configuration using a browser and URL of http:\\192.168.1.1 with default
user and password of 'admin'.

Once inside you should be able to verify DHCP settings and refresh DHCP
from the directly from the Linksys and see new ATTBI values come up for
IP Address, mask, gateway, DNS, etc. at the Linksys router.

I have done all of the above. My PC is set to DHCP and gets IP and other
info fine from Linksys. My linksys is set to DHCP and gets info fine from
ATTBI, but I can't ping ATTBI gateway from PC?? It is very strange...I had
this problem with @home during the code red stuff, due to a network change
and I fixed it by using a different @home gateway IP then the one their DHCP
server gave me. I used another persons local setting and all worked.

Could people verfify for me that the Portland ATTBI gateway they are getting
is 12.224.0.1?

thanks

I found the fix to this is poted by Linksys at:
http://www.linksys.com/exciteathome/

It's your settings for Domain name.
(wouldn't hurt to remove your Host name too)

Yes, numerous other people are having the same issue in Portland.
I and my father for starters.

[A solution that worked for me is posted below.]

Immediately after the switch to attbi both of our linksys
routers were fine after we swtiched them to use DHCP with
the attbi network. For reasons unknown, they stopped
working on the evening of 3 December, both at the same time.
The attbi turds told us that we had to remove our routers
in order to connect with attbi.

We did so and just hooked up single pc's with DHCP enabled
and were able to connect without any problems. I spent
the next few days trying every suggestion posted in the
newsgroups w/o any success. Strange, because my router
did not have any problem getting the network settings
from the attbi DHCP server, but no PC connected to the
router could get on the internet. The only solution I did not
see posted is what worked (it is also the opposite of what
the attbi turds will tell you):

(The following instructions assume that you currently have
DHCP enabled for your network card.)

1. Hook up a single PC and enable DHCP.

2. Run winipcfg, click release all, and click renew all.
Click 'more info' and write down all of the IP
settings for your network card, except for the DHCP server

3. Connect your router to the cable modem and plug your
PCs to the router.

4. Run winipcfg, click release all, and click renew all.
This will allow you to connect to your router.

5. Go to 192.168.1.1 (your router), select the setup tab.

6. Select the Static IP option. Fill in all of the information
that you wrote down from winipcfg (i.e., IP, gateway, subnet
mask, DNS servers). I just used two of the
DNS servers. Click 'apply'.

7. Close your browser. Open your browser and surf.

A few additional observations:

1. The attbi network does not care about the MAC addresses
of your router or network cards. If it is anything like
the @home system it will care about the MAC address of
your cable modem.

2. The attbi network does not seem to care about the name (e.g.,
C5600XX-A) or about the domain (e.g., @home, attbi.com).
I can put any values or none for these things and
it does not affect my ability to link.

Good luck,
Sirhan
