BEFSR41 no external ping??

Maybe someone else with a Linksys BEFSR41 can answer this. I have
block WAN request set to true. Should this prevent anyone on an
external LAN from getting a ping response? It doesn't seem to
function that way. I get can still ping my address from my LAN at
work. I have the 1.37 firmware upgrade.

Are you sure that you are pinging the external IP address of your cable/dsl
modem? If you are pinging an internal IP address (such as 192.168.1.100)
this address is not permitted on the Internet and as such can be duplicated
on many LANs behind a firewall, such as your one at work.

I was definitely pinging the external address assigned to me by @home.
In fact I did receive a follow up from tech support at Linksys. here
is the exact text of his message:

"When you block the wan IP you don't suppose to be able to ping the
wan IP address"

This was the extent of the message. No suggestions, solutions, etc.
Doesn't give me warm fuzzy about their tech support.

Another question: were you trying to ping your external IP address from
*within* the LinkSys network? I have yet to have the LinkSys figure out
what to do when I try to access my external IP address from inside. It
gets way confused. So I refer to everything with the 192.168.1.*
addresses.
