Does anyone know if there is any creative way around the port 80 block on
OOL? I had asked a while back but I was hoping maybe something new came up.
I played around with register.com's forwarding service to make people get
redirected to my domain with :81, and ran my websites on port 81, but the
only problem is I depend on host headers since I'm running 3 different
sites.. and it doesn't seem like they get forwarded once you hit
register.com's forwarding service..

What happens if you use that service to get to your allowed web page at
your ISP, and have a link from there to your server?

They don't have an allowed web service, they don't even host any web space
for users. (And the service agreement says you can't run your own either)

So can't you use 3 different ports to redirect to, 1 for each site? Seems
from your post that you can redirect to a specific port with register.com if
I understood what you wrote.

Let's say you have the following:
www.site1.com, www.site2.com & www.site3.com

Have your machine (though it's against the TOS of OptOnline to run a
commercial web server but we're just talking technical here) setup to handle
1 site on port 81, 1 on port 82 and 1 on port 83

Then redirected www.site1.com to 81, www.site2.com to 82 and www.site3.com
to 83. Most web servers allow you to do this.

Let me know how you make out.

David

That sucks. On Rogers, you get 7 e-mail addresses, each with 10 MB of
web space.

It might suck to you, but off the http://bos.speakeasy.net speed test site I
get 8400+ down and 940 up speeds (about 169 times faster then 56k modem).
That's why I have OOL. I can always find free web space!

How did you make out on this?
I am having similar problems and when I switch ports, I still can't
get in. I am starting to wonder if they are somehow blocking incoming
HTTP traffic.
Any idea?

Perhaps you screwed something up? What port number are you attempting
to use?

I can access a bit of software I wrote and sell which speaks HTTP on a
different port (port 2798). It responds fine to a remote browser over
OOL.

I really haven't done anything about it. The free forwarding from
register.com inserts a stupid frame with their ads in it, so I refuse to use
it.
