Meanwhile, my cable model lights will be flashing, meaning there's activity
on the line
Very often, the best way to re-connect is to re-boot :-(
Has anyone experienced these symptions, and if so, how did you resolve the
problem?
Frustratingly,
Bill
Came across this in another newsgroup. (From
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general), under the heading of (Xp and ATT
Broadbrand)
Seems to be working. I have not had the problems.

Found these settings in another newsgroup.
For me (Oregon), the DNS addresses are:
primary: 204.127.198.4
secondary: 63.240.76.4
I am from Olympia WA. If I remember correctly, the excite servers ran from
Tacoma or South Seattle to CA (or Southern OR).
I entered them and then rebooted. I had to right click on the connection
icon and click on repair and now everything works. Slow still 304k
connection speed according to bandwidth speed test, but at least it is going
to the sites without errors. So far anyway.
I can always set it back to obtain DNS automatically. I wonder why it
affects xp and not win9x.

I have intermittent connection as well. My cable light came back on,
but nobody has called me, as they claim they will.
The way to restore my connection temporarily:
1. Go into network connection and click the "Repair" connection that
pops up.
2. Go into the LAN settings an uncheck everything. The "Use Automatic
Configuration Script" needs to be unchecked, especially.
Then my connection works for awhile.
I'm under the impression that someone at ATT will official activate my
account and my service will be fully restored. But I had a feeling
the tech guy I was talking to told me this because he didn't know why
my connection was intermittent and was just agreeing with me.
Any help or info is welcome.
