After trying everything we could think of to fix my friend's modem problem,
we figured that maybe his CATV reception was just not good enough to support
the modem -- many of his channels were fuzzy, which never happened
before.......he called the cable company, and they said they'd have to
install a signal booster in his area in order for him to use his cable
modem.......hell knows when that'll happen....

When I heard him talking about a "signal booster," I was thinking that maybe
one of those CATV signal boosters you can buy at major electronic/hardware
stores may help his problem. Has anyone tried using a CATV signal booster
and gained positive results?

TIA

the normal cabletv/antenna amp won't work for two modem traffic.you need an
amp the has a passback from 5-50mhz.

You'd need one that can handle the modem signal in the reverse
direction.

DON'T fool around with this yourself! Get the cable company to fix it,

My signal needed to be boosted, and the Cable Co. did it for free within 5
days. I would wait and let the pros handle it.

The cable company must up the signal. If the signal is that poor
an amp probably won't do anything but increase the fuzz. If you catch my
drift.
