TCI has told me that the city I live in, Garland, is done and ready for
cable modem installs, since about October of 1998. I have a large number
of flyers that I get from them almost bi-weekly. Only problem is @Home
tells me that my neighborhood has not been released yet so they won't
schedule an install. Neither TCI or @Home can tell me when my
neighborhood will be ready -- each tells me its the other company's
problem and to call them.

Does anyone else get this run-around? Note this is different from
postponing an entire city -- It's already available in my area yet TCI
has not been able to install for me since November, if not October. Is
this happening to multiple people or just me? Feel free to tell me your
TCI horror stories.

Please send me an email or respond by posting if you are having similiar
problems.

Thanks,
Sam

I had TCI@home installed Dec. 12th, 1998 and it went well and
service up to date has been fine, no problems. And the speed is
WONDERFUL!!! Hold on, you'll love it...

I wish I could get that run-around. I live in Sachse. They put a flyer
on my front door. I called and they said, "oops, those were
distributed based on zip code (I have a Garland zip), but none of
Sachse is serviceable right now."

Grrr... It wasn't bad enought that I was already in want for a cable
modem, so they had to go and tease me.

I have had the same problems... but don't feel so bad... I've been waiting
since August 31 of 1997 for the service to be available... that's when they
said it would be available.... I live in Grand Prairie, TX.... TCI needs to
hire some faster workers.....

I also have had an *identical* problem here in the SF Bay area in
California for almost a year. Until yesterday that is, they finally
scheduled an install. I feel your pain believe me....I live only 5
miles from the @Home nationwide corporate headquarters. The kicker is
the web page form (I filled out) told me the service was available
when I entered my address but their telephone operator would tell me
otherwise. Good luck!!

Hello,
I just got installed here in Berkeley Ca. The first thing
was that TCI had my city misspelled. Once they corrected that they
showed it was available. Before correcting the misspelling they
asked me how long the home was at that location, etc, etc. then they
said they would have to send an installer out to my location to check
the pole. This would take about 1-2 weeks. It is when I called them
back that they found the misspelling error. When I hung up the first
time I thought why would it take 2 weeks for someone to come out to
check the pole when they told me that an installer could be scheduled
in just 2 days. So it was just luck that I called them back and it
was great that I did. I keep checking @Home's web available page and
it never did list Berkeley as coming or available. I just like to
call from time to time to see if there is any new info. on how much
longer it will be. They told me that my area Pinol just went up about
1 week ago. They had a problem where modems already on this line were
working fine but new modems would not work. It is working now. Also I
had a hard time installing the 3Com network card the drivers that came
with the card would not assign the IRQs correctly. I download the
newest drivers and that corrected the problem. I have been wait for
about 1 1/2 years for service to become available. Not that it was
supposed to be available for that long just for @Home to get service
in my area.
I find that some web sites still take a few more seconds to come up
than you would think. I guess that does not have anything to do with
the actual modem speed. One thing, I am using Free Agent and news
group post download takes longwer than I thought it would be. If it
is the @home server speed I think they sould upgrade.

I live on Miller between centerville and first in Garland and ive had
@home for bout 6-7 months.. I still get the tci flyers and junk mail
even though i already have it.. The speed and reliability is great,
but the installation techs suck.. Once you get it installed, dont
touch anything, and you will have no problems.. You are also able to
boot-leg the cable..not that i do.. enjoy!

I am having exactly the same problem, including the bi-weekly flyers
to an address that is not serviceable. The hardware upgrade was done
at least 6 months ago, but node 36 in Grand Prairie has not been
released. Like you, I have been waiting since October. @Home asked
me to call TCI and TCI told me that I needed to contact @Home. What
really gets me upset is all the lies from their customer service reps.
Every time I call I get a different story.

Are you sure TCI does not have your City name misspelled. This
actually happened to me and when they found the misspelling their
computer showed that my area is serviceable. Just a simple thing like
this causes a lot of pain. Also TCI first told me that Berkeley, Ca
was under Richmond but I latter found out that my line is under the
Pinole line. So knowing the exact line you are on is a help then you
can check TCI's web page. The page does say that Grand Prairie is
available if you know for sure you are on that line. I know that may
not mean very much. I know how anxious you are to get sevice!

I had a fun one-- I live in East Moline, IL -- EVERY part is supposed
to have TCI/@Home. Anyway, I scheduled an install, all looked rosie.
A few days later, they called, telling me they can't do it - No
service in my area (WTF???). Anyway, ok, I order Dial-Up service.

A few days later, I do a status check -- Actually got to talk to a guy
(seemed like a supervisor - he was ready to kick so & so's ass who I'd
talked to the week before). He re-built my account from scratch &
found the ZIP code had been entered as 61224 instead of the CORRECT
61244... Makes a big difference ;)

Anyway, got an install scheduled, etc... My next question for ANYONE
is: What exactly do they install on my PC? I've got a lot of stuff
that's fine-tuned just the way I like it... What's this "@Home
Window" I keep reading about that is the only place you can check
web-mail, change PW's, check different things...? I'm just wanting the
dang DNS, IP's, Gateway, and turn me loose ;) (Needless to say, I'm
going to image my C drive with Ghost before they touch it ;)
