Every now and then I get a windows error stating that the IP address is in
conflict with hardware located at: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and it gives me an address of
some kind. The IP address is definitely the @home ISP. I have looked at all
the systems info for conflicts but can't find any. When this happens, I lose
access to @home. Sometimes it comes back when I reboot, sometimes
not--sometimes works 15 minutes later. I have gone in through winipcfg and
reset the adapter but I get an error doing this too. Anyway these symptoms
appeared after I tried to install a Lynksys PCI phoneline network card. I
decided not to go through with hooking up two computers, so I uninstalled it
and everything looks fine, however I now get this error. But, the two might
not be related since I put the card in the day after I got the cable modem, so
I really didn't get a chance to fully test out the modem before this.

Any hope here? I called @home support, and they were clueless--said I should
contact Microsoft as this is a windows problem since I didn't have any hardware
conflict in the system control panel.

HELP!!!

The @home people on the phone are retards, they don't know anything, in
fact they don't even work at @home. They work for a company called Stream
International that does customer support for many different companies..
Basically they just read off a sheet, with the exception of a few guys who
actually know what the hell they are talking about. Whats probably
happening, is someone is starting a proxy server and stealing IP addresses,
one of them being yours. That happened to me, they caught the guy and he
was charged with a felony, because stealing @home is technically stealing
cable :)

Try going into your network settings, and choose 'obtain IP address
automatically' under TCP/IP for your network card. (make sure you write
down your IP if you don't already know it by heart...) If this doesn't work
set it back..

That worked for me...but it may be a different problem..so good luck :)
