Anyone out there know the host name or domain name info for
cablespeed.com service in Seattle/Bellevue? Their tech support is MIA as
usual. Anyone configured a router to work with this service? I'm having
no luck getting the router to connect with the outside world.

TIA

If you are on DHCP, you should leave the domain blank. Try to clone the MAC
address of your PC.

Still problems? ask here:

How is the PC currently setup to connect? Do you need any special login or
authentication program, or is it just "automatically obtain an IP
address"...

Lets see...I have a static IP and DNS servers through my ISP. No DHCP. I
don't need a special login or pass. I have my PC's set up locally on the
router with no problems. The problem is configuring the the router to
use my static IP, DNS, etc. I called Netgear and tech support told me I
must (!) have the host (or system) name and the domain name. I was never
provided either when the cable modem was originally set up. I've
telnetted into the router and tried every host and domain name I could
think of with no luck. I thought it might be a problem with the DNS but
I've got the DNS addresses programmed into the router AND my individual
PC's. I'm hoping that someone will see this and say "That's exactly the
problem I had!" and have the solution.

thanks.

go back to http://192.168.0.1 (or whatever the LAN IP of your router is).

Unless you needed a specific hostname earlier, you don't need anything
special here. Call it anything you want. The domain is only needed if your
mail and news clients are configured with short names (typically only on
@home).

Go to the next screen and select "ethernet" & "standard"
Go to the last screen, enter your DNS servers, enter IP subnet, and gateway
as given by your ISP.
enter DNS server.
Select "spoof this MAC address" and enter the LAN IP of the PC that worked
before.

If you cannot connect, unplug the cable modem for a minute. Then plug it
back in.

How are the PCs setup? DHCP or fixed? IP, mask, gateway, dns?

It turns out that my cable service provider is reselling IP's from
another service locally. Due to the way their servers are set up routers
are incompatible. It's a hub or nothing which I succesfully set up
Tuesday! Thanks for your help.
