On double checking, the rates I was quoted were the monthly service rates.
There IS an additional metered usage rate -- $0.09/10 minutes with a 5
minute increment after the initial 10 minutes.

The usage can be specified per B channel, but for identical services on
both channels the rates are:

2B+D Data only $42 /mo
2B+D Voice only $65 /mo
2B+D Voice/Data $100 /mo

I also double checked on the different prices for voice, data and
voice/data service. It's definitely DIFFERENT. The Team Data rep informed
me that Indiana is somewhat different in their rate structures. He said
the rates here are favorable compared to other states in the Ameritech
domain, but the voice rates are a bit higher.

I'm not intimately familar with the rates in other locales, but these
rates still seem to be pretty reasonable. No?

That depends on how you look at it, I suppose. The information I read from
the Team Data fax-back service showed that Indiana is the only Ameritech
state that has metered residential service. ( At least if I remeber it
correctly - I gave the info to someone at the office. )

In Texas GTE includes a mileage component in the ISDN (2B+D) line
rate. With both voice and data my charges for two of my three lines
run $42/month, while the third (newer) line runs $38/month. (The new
line connects to a different switch that happens to be closer.) Voice
calls remain unmetered, but originated data calls cost $0.03/minute.
Incoming data calls cost nothing, of course. Installation runs around
$65.

In Texas Southwestern Bell charges $57.50/month for a 2B+D line with
NO per-minute charges of any kind. Installation, however, costs over
$500.

I keep hearing rumors that facets of both tariffs will be revised
downward, Bell to lower the installation charge, and GTE to lower the
metering charge.

Since we're comparing tariffs: Rochester Tel:

Residential (flat rate voice) $30/mo + $4 for 2 data channels +$4
multi-point (ea). e.g. $38/month for 2 voice or data channels and 2
addressable units
(POTS vs. computer say).

Data also pays .09/minute first minute (connect), then .03/minute peak,
.06 .02 off-peak

Installation is $134 + 80 if they have to visit your house, e.g. to install
a NT1, ISDN set, or ADAK box. (plus whatever those cost, obviously).

If I understand, both data & voice bearer are billed by the second.

Ohio has _flat_rate_ voice & data resi ISDN. I'll take that any
day...

Interesting, I have a friend who is on the Oaklandon (In) exchange
and he pays NO per minute charges on his ISDN (residential.) Be persistent,
apparently it takes patience to deal with Ameritech here in Indy.

And remember, this is at my residence, but this is for BUSINESS service.
I don't know, but from what I've seen, it probably makes a difference.
I'll pester Ameritech some more and see...
