I have set up my (Euro-)ISDN to work(?).
I can use my analog equ. to dial and all
lights are "go".
I installed the Diva in the PC (WIN98) and
used the Eicon CD to install the right
drivers and also the config software from
Eicon.
Everything looks fine in system. No
exclamations. The Diva is represented and
hooked up to com1. The Eicon software is
installed.
THE PROBLEM:
The Eicon config tool can't find
the Diva...
Any suggestions to what I can have done wrong?
Btw: I've tried 3 com ports and I've tried
wizard install and manual install.

Check these things first.
A better manual is available from Eicon than the Quick Start one you got in
the box. It is in .pdf format and is 109 pages long. www.eicon.com

Here is what you are missing out on in the Config Tool:
3 profiles in NVRAM. Each profile has either:
1. MLPPP, PPP, V.120 and V.110 (grayed out in US version)
2. Switch type
3. Your Telephone Number settings
4. SPID number settings
5. fax modem only, enable distinctive ring, enable voice mail for each phone
checkboxes
6. BACP selection box and settings
7. Update Time button
8. Data over Voice checkbox
9. Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Checkbox
All of these functions (as you know by now) are available by AT commands.
There is no magic in it. I wish there were other things in it rather than
going through the AT commands.
The wizard can usually only work if your local CO switch is very new. All it
does is detect switch type and SPID, then takes you to set the other things
manually. Nothing to shout about there. Half the time even if you have the
new switches, you still have configure everything manually.
I had a bad time when I got my line in a few days ago. Wizard failed at
detecting switch type phase and timed out. Manual SPID settings would not
work right. The D light kept flashing when I put in the SPIDS, but stopped
when I didn't, but then there was no hope of getting the second B up for
data. Just a mess.
Turns out the telephone company had misprogrammed the line. They had me down
for MaxTerm=1 instead of MaxTerm=2. A loopback was not possible from one
SPID to the other.
Then the ISP had trouble bringing the second channel up. More problems. And
they are the only show in town for a local call.
I have found Eicon to slow in responding to e-mails, but their telephone
support is great.
I have an e-mail address to one of the techs if you are still mad about what
you are missing out on (nothing).

I know you are sore about not having the config tool and if I had not seen
it, I would be, too. But now that I have seen it, I find there is nothing to
see. In fact, I would have preferred better AT instructions and to go from
there.
It must have taken a while to figure out what to do from the book you had.
Some of those AT commands are pretty wild, but the basic ones are not too
unusual.
I wonder if it took you as long as it did me to finally decide the phone
company had screwed up the installation and no matter what I did to the
terminal, it would have been wrong.
Well, at least if someone asks me about it, I know what to say and do and I
have learned a lot.
Another learning experience. Just what I needed.

I'm having a similar experience... I can communicate with the modem
using Hyperterminal, but the config tool can't talk to the modem. I
called Eicon and they are slow in getting me help. And they haven't
answered any of my email messages.

That was my trouble and once the company realized that the programming on
their end was hosed, everything worked like a champ. Then I had to work a
long time with the ISP until they got on the ball.

Arrgghhh. It turned out that my problem was two-fold...
First, I had tried to use an Ascend Pipeline 25 before moving to the
Eicon Modem and the Ascend stoftware had changed some serial port
settings that I was unaware of. It had turned off hardware flow control
in several difference places.
Once that was fixed, I was able to connect to the modem using the T/A
utility. But I couldn't connec to my ISP. Upgrading to the new Firmware
fixed that.
However, after connecting to my ISP, I couldn't access the internet.
That was fixed by disabling software compression in the RAS/TCP settings.
Now it's working perfectly.
