I would like to set up a FAX ON DEMAND system (otherwise known as
FAXBACK ??) on my computer. The concept seems to be quite commonplace
in the STATES but no - one knows what I am talking about here in South
Africa.

Please can someone point me in the right direction for advice on
Hardwear & softwear.

Thanks

Andrew

A good place to call for Fax-On-Demand is Nuntius Corp in the United
States. Fax-On-Demand is the sort of thing that should be
individually configured to meet your needs. You can have something as
small as a one-voice/one-fax that share the same phone line, up to
something that supports 48 phone lines and beyond. The Nuntius
CommandFax software alone supports over 15 types of Voice-hardware,
Fax-hardware, and/or fax server software. You'd best call them and
discuss your needs and they can steer you in the right direction. You
can reach them at:

If you are looking for a low cost fax-back system, look at any low cost
modem that comes with Smith Micro Message Center software. They are
around $75 for an internal modem and software in the US.

For a good solid multi-line unit, get a Brooktrout Quadrafax device. It
is a standalone box that can support 2 or 4 lines without additional
hardware. It is managed through the phone or through a serial cable
from a Windows PC. It can also download images from a print driver to
the device and not suffer the first generation image loss by cutting
one fax scan out of the loop.
