Hi everyone,

My company is looking to purchase a few serial line analyzers (to peek
into the data flow between serial devices). I'd like to hear your
recommendations on what you think are good buys. Prices and where to
buy would be very helpful.

Has anyone heard of DATASCOPE from Seimac Research? It's one of the
analyzers we're considering.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Check out the LM-1 from Network General. This is an add-in
card for an ISA bus PC that will turn the PC into a
full-featured serial data protocol analyzer. It handles
sync and async to 64 kbps.

I have several of them and think they're great.

Network General is in Menlo Park, CA.

Helas, unable to analyze serial protocols like SLIP or ARAP !

Check Frederick Engineering in Frederick MD, USA. (410) 290 9000
They have a really good protocol analyzer that is a PC card and interface pod.
Good value for money.

I'll second this recommendation. I've used their FEDAC and FELINE
products with great success.

If all you need to do is look at the data and track control lines, there's
a shareware product called DLM (Data Line Monitor) available that only
requires that you build a cable, and have a PC with 2 serial ports. No
fancy conditional triggers, but it keeps the last 32k of data, works up
to 19200 baud.

Then I guess you would not be interested in an HP Line Analyser ;-)
