Does there exist a RJ48X keystone to fit in the usual faceplate?

Yes, they normally call it RJ45, but the thing is: it's just a 8 pin 8
conductor jack (8P8C), and the actual registered jack number depends on the
pin layout you create when you terminate them. As this is most likely for a
digital circuit, just get CAT5E RJ45 from your favorite source, and you
should be fine as long as you follow RJ48x pinout scheme: pins 1 and 2 -
transmit to network, 4 and 5 - receive from network

To the best of my knowledge no one makes an RJ48X in a keystone format. If
you really need the transfer contacts that the 48X configuration provides
for T1 applications.

So that is what they are for.

I have seen this used in burglar alarms, where the alarm system
plugs into an RJ48X, such that if you unplug it the phones in the
house still work. If the alarm system wants to call in, it can
disconnect the phones.
