We are currently using (don't laugh) an AT&T 3B2/600 for a
database application that is growing in popularity.
Response time gets very slow when you have more than 10-15
concurrent users running our database application.

This has put us in the market for a faster hardware platform
for our Database applications.

I was wondering what recommendations people had for machines
that can support 50+ concurrent users running database applications
whithout noticable performance degredation.

Most users are doing mild data entry and heavy report generation.
BTW our database is Unify 2000 ( about 75M ) and our application
is written in ACCELL 4GL.

Information including the following would be greatly appreciated.

Machine and Model:
OS version:
Amount of RAM:
Disk Size and type:
Typical number of concurrent users:
Other comments about performance:

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin, We are currently supporting 50-60 heavy db users on our CDC 4680.

System : CDC 4680
OS : EP/IX 1.4.3
Ram : 128M
Disk : 2 1 GIG SCSI drives
users : 50 -60 heavy database inquiry, 3 people doing development

The database is about 175,000 records and takes aroud 850M

We have had the system for about a year and haven't been able to slow it down. We only have
one cpu, but you can have upto 4. Here are the SPECMark/ Specthruput numbers, compared
to 4 other vendors.

CDC DEC HP IBM SUN
4680 5800 750 950 690MP
Maxinum # cpu's 4 4 1 1 4
SPECMARK 205 39 78 72 91
Aim Users load 1381 65 (1 cpu)
TPC-C(ORacle) 112 (2 cpus)
Max Disk Capacity (GB) 179 58 40 22 52

We have been very happy with performance, so much so, we have recommed the purchase
of a 3 cpu model with 256M memmory and 14 gig of disk to replace our current administrative
system.
CDC has a whole line of 4000's system, ranging from a work station to the system's I just mentioned.

If you would like any more information, just drop me a note.

I hope this help's

Gary
