Is anybody out there familiar with vp-info or sharkbase? They were a good
Dbase type database language with a lot of neat features. They were
published by Sub Rosa, but the main brain behind them died in 1994. Does
anybody know if newer versions are available?

It's still available and runs just fine in DOSbox. The dbf files can also be opened and edited with OpenOffice. Contact one of the authors: http://www.sid-bursten.com/professional_resume.htm
