So I got a hold of a Playstation representative and they told me that there is no way for me to check and no way for Playstation to track a stolen Vita. Only thing I could do is contact the police department and see if they have any serial numbers that match, which I really don't want to do.

Would the weight of not knowing bear down on you every time you use it and make it impossible to enjoy it? If I find a great deal on craigslist I try to close the deal before anyone else beats me to it not try to figure out if the person selling it is the original and legal owner lol If the legal owner is able to track down and prove the property is theirs, you have to give it back with no compensation meaning you lose the money spent on it and have nothing to show for it. A recorded serial number is one such way of proving that ownership. So I got a hold of a Playstation representative and they told me that there is no way for me to check and no way for Playstation to track a stolen Vita. Since its release, the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, has had a number of upgrades to both its hardware and software capabilities. The PSP's hardware has changed to, among other things, include more sophisticated motherboards and a slimmer product called the PSP Slim. With firmware updates the architecture of the PSP becomes safer and more stable, but at the cost of limiting other activities, such as playing downloaded games or home brew material. If you attempt to modify your PSP Slim without taking into account what type of hardware, like the motherboard, is compatible with modifications, you could end up disabling your hand-held. There are simple and effective methods to tell what motherboard you likely have from the serial number.

Find the box's serial number label. It will look similar to the serial number label on the PSP Slim itself, but will have a different code that consists of a number and then a capital letter, for example, "8C." Date codes of 8C and 8D definitively are TA-088v3 motherboards. Above these and you have the TA-90v1 motherboard for a PSP2000, and below 8C you will have either the TA-088v1 or TA-088v2.

The bottom right is where the AC adapter plug goes in, which we find is quite an odd placement for it. When gaming with the power line plugged in, your right hand will feel the cord and plug. While it doesn't interfere per se, it would have been much neater if the power port was placed on the top edge of the unit. Not a huge knock, just a slight inconvenience. The left side is where the headphones plug in. When used, the headphone plug doesn't interfere with our movement as much as the AC adapter one because the headphones plug is on the bottom half of the PSP. Also at the bottom edge a sticker in a recessed area, with the product number and serial number in the middle. We don't we see it lasting after a few months of hardcore use nor do we see the point of this sticker, as there is actually an etched serial number in the battery compartment.

For PSP 200X models, you can find the date code in the battery compartment sticker with the battery removed. This will be two characters written above the serial number with the words date code next to them.
