The problem appears when sybinit tries to bring up the server I get "SERVER ERROR: Failed to boot server 'SYBASE'. "
The following messages appear in errorlog. It does not matter what 'free' port number I choose I always get the same error.
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 server Opening Master Database ...
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 server Loading SQL Server's default sort order and character set
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 kernel network name bulls, type ether, port 3333
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 kernel ninit: bind, Cannot assign requested address
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 kernel ninit: All master network listeners have failed. Shutting down.
00:1999/02/04 11:17:19.69 kernel ueshutdown: exiting
I can bring the server up as root but then I am unable to attach to it using isql. I then get
Operating-system error:
Network is unreachable
DB-LIBRARY error:
Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
steve
Just off hand, the default port for Sybase is 7100 on Linux. I am not
sure what normally sits at 3333, but there may be a conflict. Try
modifying the interfaces file (take a backup first).

P.S. I am no expert on this, but I like to play ... ;-)

My guess is that you don't have recent enough glibc libraries.
Michael
Maybe the version of Linux you are using is not recent enough.
