Dear all,

Just a very silly questions, where can I find ODBC drivers for
Sybase on Windows95/98 or NT 4.0?
And does any people tried out Sybase ASE 11.03 for Linux? What is the
comment? Thanks!

Best Rgds,

On your Sybase SQL Server CDs. Since version 11.something, Sybase has
shipped a repackaged version of Intersolv's drivers.

Other 3rd-party sources usually have "trialware" drivers:
www.intersolv.com
www.openlinksw.com
www.simbatech.com

HI

You can download drivers free from our website at www.openlinksw.com or
www.openlinksw.co.uk. You can download either single-tier (60 day
evaluation) or multi-tier (Free non-expiring 2 user license).

Dear Tim,

Can you provide more info?
I cannot find much info from their web sites. I have been there many times
but I don't know which version should I download , the single-tier or
multi-tier one?
By the way, I want to use the ODBC drivers on WIN32 platform. So i do not
need a Linux ODBC driver.
Thanks very much for your response.

Jacky Hui

Hi,

If you only need the Windows client, you can use either the Lite (Single-Tier)
or Multi-Tier versions.
If you want future compatibility and scalability and you don't want to use a
Sybase comms layer, try multi-tier.

You can get the drivers by downloading ASE for NT from sybase, then install
on to the win95 platform. Select licensed products and install Open Client
and ODBC drivers.

Hi,

There is no need to install Open Client any more. OpenLink have a multi-tier
driver for Sybase on Linux that does not require it. It's available for free
non-expiry evaluation download by filling in the forms on our downloads
pages, <http://www.openlinksw.com/> onwards.

Hi,

I've downloaded the OpenLink multi-tier driver for Client:WIN95/Server:LINUX.
This installation seemed to go okay on both platforms but I get the following
error when I try to connect to the Sybase 11 Server from the WIN95 machine:

szSqlState = "08004", *pfNativeError = 0, *pcbErrorMsg = 58
szErrorMsg = "[OpenLink][ODBC][Driver]Connection rejected by data source"

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks

Hi,

Could you please post us the request broker debug trace (run the broker in
debug mode with oplrqb -d), showing the connection attempt and the
server-side error message why it fails?

Thanks for the quick reply!!

Below you'll find the request broker debug output. I noticed in the output
that the broker was compiled for kernel 2.0.33. I'm using 2.0.32, but will
be upgrading as soon as possible. I've read some other posts that say you
need to be running 2.0.36pre to work around a tcp/ip bug in the kernel.
Maybe that's my problem!!

Anyway, thanks again and here is the debug output:

Hi,

I note from you debug the lines:

> Environment SYBASE11 oplrqb: change environment 'SYBASE' ->
> '/usr/local/opt/sybase' oplrqb: change environment 'DSQUERY' -> 'SYBASE'

...

> *14: Login failed. generic_syb11:
> * 4: ct_connect(): protocol specific layer: external error: The attempt to >
connect to the server failed.

Are you sure the above are the correct values for the DSQUERY and SYBASE
variables? If you source the environment variable script that the
installation of Sybase left lying around, can you then connect to Sybase with
isql, in the username of sybase? ('sa' would be a good starting point for
testing usernames.) If you can connect with isql, check your DSQUERY and
SYBASE variables with the `env` command; these values should then go in
oplrqb.ini.

Please let us know how you get on with the above.

As usual, I was overlooking the obvious. I was trying to connect to the
server using the O/S username of 'sybase' instead of the database username of
'sa'. I'm connecting now and everything is working great.

Thanks to Tim Haynes of OpenLink for the excellent support. Without it, I'd
still be banging my head against the wall.

Thanks Again!!!
