Our current relational systems are built around Ingres yet we're
considering using SYbase for new developments. There would be a
requirement to maintain data consistency between all databases.

In the Ingres environment we could employ Ingres's Replicator product,
yet this can't support full replication with Sybase. Neither can the
Sybase replicator support this type of replication.

Has anyone implemented anything that can replicate to and from an
Ingres database ?

hi there,
it depends on the ingres & sybase version. the best solution will be
to go in for the sybase gateway product OMNIConnect. but the current
version of OMNIConnect is single threaded for ingres connections. so
concurrent users will have problems. multi-threaded connections are
not supported now. as per sybase they will be coming out with a full
support by the 3rd quarter of '97 (keep ur fingers crossed !!!)

we have been soft pedalling this work for the past 12-15 months as we
were unable to get any viable suggestion. i wld be interested in the
suggestions coming up on the web.
thanx

If you are willing to write some code, there is no reason why Sybase
replication server can't help you. If there is not a replication
agent for Ingres that meets your needs, you can always write your own.
Once you have done this, you can enjoy the benefits that Sybase
replication server provides. I think there already is an Ingress
replication agent. I would have to check to make sure. In the worst
case,
there is an ODBC replication agent. I have no first hand experience
with
it, however, it may be worth a look.
