NEW COURSE: Oracle Rdb Internals V6
-----------------------------------

Oracle Rdb Internals V6 (RDBE) has been added to the Oracle Education
curriculum. This course gives experienced Rdb database administrators an
insight into the internal structures and mechanisms of Rdb, to aid them
in
maximising the performance and availability of their Rdb databases. It
will
also help them to resolve complex problems.

The full course synopsis is included in this message. The first run is
scheduled for Bracknell, 25th September. The price is 1050 pounds excl
VAT.

OVERVIEW

This course will enable experienced Oracle Rdb database administrators or
support technicians to understand Oracle Rdb's internal implementation.
This will help them to maximize the performance and availability of their
database and participate in complex problem identification and
resolution. The course will also examine how to define and implement a
database maintenance and recovery strategy which best fits a given
application environment.


PREREQUISITES

Delegates should have the following skills :

* An understanding of VMS utilities and commands.

* The ability to use Oracle Rdb's RMU utility.

* Familiarity with the operation of the Oracle Rdb
strategy optimizer.

* An understanding of Oracle Rdb database structure.

* At least 6 months tuning, support, or advanced DBA experience.



OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this course, delegates should be able to :

* Use Oracle Rdb utilities to view and and explain the various locks
and their use.
* Use the RMU utilities to analyze the database, its structure and
integrity.
* Use various tools provided by Oracle Rdb and OpenVMS to isolate
problems and determine behavior and potential corrective action.
* Describe the work the static and dynamic optimizer must do to
retrieve data.
* Look at an Oracle Rdb bugcheck dump and identify key structures used
by Oracle Rdb and their function, use, and impact.
* Describe concepts of various database recovery mechanisms.

Any possiblity of getting hold of an updated Rdb/Internals reference manual
for version 6.0.

I have an old copy for Rdb 4.1 which I got after attending the Internals
course a few years ago.
