My company is using an archaic version of PICK. It's an R/83 based version
called the Altos Pick Operating System, Release v3.40.

Integrated with the OS is a third-party product called Main-Link which is
a product of a company called Mainstream Technologies.

Does anyone know anything about this company? If they still exist? We're
looking for some kind of support for the product since we're having trouble
and I've come up empty-handed.

Any help is appreciated!

I have a great deal of experience with this product.

We replaced that product with VIADUCT from VIA SYSTEMS.

VIADUCT is a superior product.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Good luck,

Main-Link (or Missing-Link as we used to call it) was one of the earlier
products that allowed for Pick-to-Pick data transfers. Many of us old timers
remember Comsys as well (thanks GA). As I recall from my days as an Altos
VAR, Main-Link was designed by Tony Speed, one the original 4-S's that also
built Comsys. If you are doing only Pick-to-Pick data transfers using your
Altos you may be stuck as much of the Main-Link product was written in
assembler. You might give a call to Pete Shellenbach (sorry about the
spelling Pete) from AccuSoft and see if he can help or get you in touch with
Tony Speed. AccuSoft's number is 818.951.1891

Hi all,

I was the VP of Mainstream Technologies and yes, Tony Speed was the original
designer of both Comsys and MainLink. After we split, along with David Royston
and David Murray, Tony sold the rights to the product line to the folks in Australia.
Might be PickWorks, but I haven't seen them do anything with the products
commercially.

If there's something I can help you with e-mail me privately and I'll try and
remember the good-old days of Mainstream Technologies when Dick Pick
and Bill Thurman ruled the world.

Back when Dick Pick was our personal hero, and Bill Thurman a second
father to us both <grin>.

It seems like only yesterday DP was asking to borrow a jazz-rock
fusion CD by John Scofield called *Pick Hits*, and BT was telling me to
lose some weight in that subtle, polite and considerate way of his...

I salute their memories, amazed at how quickly the time slips away.
