Yeah... and you know, invariably I find myself just buying them a copy of the
real McCoy and bundling it into the price of the contract. It's just better
that way.

All of it true, but add that the Runtime doesn't give the end user the
ability to define queries, forms, reports, and so on, and the licensing
terms prevent you from delivering an app enabling these facilities,
which might create concurrence for Paradox.
It's to be used much like the various VBRUNxxx.DLL : a runtime
environment for your custom application.

Suppose you wanted to turn a working Paradox application with limited
distribution into commercial software? Would you use Paradox Runtime or
would you do something else?

Paradox Runtime is the product with the development-features turned off. It
is distributable by owners, but it is not cheap.
Generally speaking, we never use it. The full-blown product is simply not
that expensive, and it's much more versatile. With it, users can not only run
your application but do anything else a database might enable them to do.

I do not use the runtime. I have supplied the complete package wit
heverything I sell. The main reason for this is that there is no QBE in
Paradox Runtime. That did it for me. If the users can't make queries
it would be of no use.
