Our data center uses Netbackup for backups. I have to do RMAN backup
over the wide area network which takes long long time. I am looking to
reduce what is sent over the nework using Oracle 10g RMAN compression.
My databases, however, are Oracle 8i based.
I want to use an Oracle 10g database on Windows ( rman) to backup
Oracle 8i database on HP UNIX. I cannot install Oracle 10g on HP UNIX
because version of UNIX is 11.

If I use compress feature of rman, I will think it will compress the
backup sets of 9i and thus reduce network traffic .Is there any way
to find whether compression was used and how much compression was
done.

Thanks.
