I am trying to find a way to get training as a Oracle DBA, and be
certified.

I have been to the Oracle web site and looked through the educational
stuff.

I am wondering if there is anyone out here that has gone through DBA
training that they would recommend? Or at least share their
experience?

Specifically, the training tools along the line of:

1. CD ROM/CBT and Video Tape

2. Junior Colleges

3. Training facilities like: New Data Stratagies, Horizons, The
Technology Center, etc...

4. Oracles own seminairs (Which strike me as hype and aren't worth
the money, ... speaking from past experiences)

5. Personal Trainer (and be certified?)

6. Other? What ever else may be a forum to learn Oracle to become a
certified DBA.

TIA to all,

Q

Well, if what you are going after is certification, the easiest way is to
take the four instructor led courses corresponding to the four exams, or
at least get your hands on the course materials to study. The exams are
tied to the course materials, so you need the course materials to prepare
properly for the exams if you don't otherwise have the appropriate
experience and knowledge. The hardest one to prepare for without the
course materials will probably be Performance Tuning Workshop because no
other single source covers all the topics.

Now if we are talking about really learning the product, I would suggest
the instructor lead courses and a job where you can apply what you were
taught on in the classroom and have access to, and help from, someone
with in-depth experience.

What you get out of instructor led training will depend somewhat on the
instructor.

Hi Jay,

If you think you'd like to try Web-based training, go to
http://www.oraworld.com/train.htm. OraWorld's training was developed by
Steve Bobrowski, who wrote most of the Oracle7 documentation while he
was at Oracle and the advanced replication documentation for Oracle8 as
a contractor.

To find out more about the DBA exam, go to
http://www.oraworld.com/dbaexam.htm.

Hope this helps. Cheers,

I think I forgot to mention that you can take a free test drive of three
of the training modules at OraWorld. The three free modules are
introductory level, and they'll give you a good idea of the type of
courseware offered.

Cheers,
Kathleen

>TIA to all,

Hello :

I am living in Taiwan, and I had passed three subjects for oracle
DBA certification within two months.
now I just left 1 class. (Performance Tuning).
First, you must get these OCP books for Four Subjects .
Beside SQL and PL/SQL Using Procedure Building, I suggest
that you can go to the Oracle Education Center for learning the

Oracle Database Administration.
Oracle Database Backup and Recovery.
Oracle Database Performance Tuning.

So you can learn more detail technology about Oracle DBA,
not just for certification!
