how to using 11g client connect oracle 8.1.7 server£¿

I install oracle 11g server using test at my machine . I find I don't
connect 8.1.7 server.

hint:

D:\>sqlplus scott/tiger@XXX

I attempt many methods , those are fails.

I want to know how to using 11g client connect 8.1.7 server.

You can't. Client software usually is 2 major releases downwards
compatible.

I have the same problem too but i'm using SQL Developer and it says
error 4 (something related to ArrayOutofBoundsException in the stack).
I just wonder If i can connect to my Oracle 8.1.7 had i installed
another client (let it be 10gR2 client which supports 8.1.7) on top of
my 11g client and use the tools in the 11g client to access the 8.1.7
server?

I think this is oracle server 8.1.7.
