Do I need a license to use V$ACTIVE_SESSION_HISTORY? It's an amazingly
useful table but there is a license issue.

OK, I should have read the documentation. Yes, the diagnostic pack
license is required. I should have known, the retention is regulated by
DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY package.

You probably already know about s-ash, but in case anyone didn't,
worth a look at http://ashmasters.com/ash-simulation/

Funny how there is a different oracle product named sash.

I didn't know about it. Thanks a bunch! This is a marvelous piece of
software.

"Funny how there is a different oracle product named sash" Sash is
not an Oracle product, but is Kyle's offering as a poor man
substitute. If like us, you or your customer cannot afford the EM
Diagnostic/Performance Pack licenses then this code provides pretty
much the same information without having to pay a fee.

Google was not my friend :-)

Googling oracle sash gets things like
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17645_01/doc.50/e17647/cnf_provisioning.htm

Kyle's offering is called s-ash, but google removes the - unless you
quote it. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=oracle+%22s-ash%22 Sometimes, maybe,
it's hard to know with mysterious context sensitive searches google
allegedly has, that of course cannot distinguish between oracle as a
product provider and oracle referenced by a non-oracle product. So
we just scream in our best Pee-Wee Herman voice "namespace collision!"
and go on our merry way.
