I tried registering on IBM site to download and explore DB2 for Linux:

After I entered my information for 4 times, I called the technical
support, entered it for 2 more times, lost my patience and decided that
IBM is obviously not too serious abut DB2 on Linux

Nope. My browser cookie settings were too restrictive. I usually forbid

duration of session and all is well. I hate cookies procreating in my
browser and am very paranoid about to whom do I allow to track my surfing
habits.

And you'll find that if you keep your browser session running over an
extended period (sometimes it is days between my browser shutdowns) or
you've allowed IBM cookies to be beyond session-life, "old" IBM cookies
will often screw with your subsequent authentication attempts and you'll
need to manually remove them.
