There is a big change in Oracle 9i install process. Now in order to
install the desired components on a Oracle database EE install, you
can NOT select 'Enterprise Edition' and hoping in the next screen you
send select either 'typical', 'minimal' or 'custom' as in 8i and
before. There is a 'Enterprise Edition' type to choose at the
begining, but you can't select component products after that.
Everything is automated. Oracle will dictate what products to install.

To perform an equivalent 'Custom' install as in 8i, user needs to
choose 'Custom' at the same screen where 'Enterprise Edition',
'Standard Edition' and 'Personal Edition' is displayed. Not only is
this confusing for people that expect to do a custom Enterprise
Edition install, but it posts an interesting question: if I do a
Custom install, how do I ensure I install all standard EE
products/features because I am licensed for them? Anyone know?

Thanks,

The feature differences between EE and SE are factored into the engines
themselves, and are not something you can override in the install. So it
would be impossible to NOT install all EE features, or conversely install
some EE only features into SE.

Note however that some of the factoring between SE and EE didn't actually
get factored in Release 1 - so there is a slight chance that you could find
some EE only features currently available in SE. These are documented in the
release notes, and will be fully factored in Release 2. This has nothing to
do with you doing a custom install.

I believe that if you do do a custom install, you will by default install
the EE edition - the concept of a custom SE install doesn't really make
sense. I'll check this out when I get back into the office tomorrow.

That is what I hope - by getting EE by default. Can you verify this
and post it here? Much appreciated.
