Dear all,

In order to support our internal consulting-activities in Oracle-related
projects, we developed a graphical
DBA tool, called GUARDIAN database manager, covering a big range of
functionalities not found in other
commercial tools. And it's incredible fast.

Therefore we have a lot of requests for using this tool by other people.
Because we are not a
Software-Sales-Company we decided to make it available for FREE to
everybody. The version you can
download is full functional and also a detailed help-system in English is
provided as well as a tutorial.
The actual versions covers Oracle 7.x and 8.x databases.

On this free version no support is provided. If you have any suggestions for
further functionality please feel
free to mail us (guar...@voesystm.ch )

The actual web-download-area (www.voesystem.ch/download) is written in
German, but an English version
will be available soon. Anyway, you should be able to download this product
(3 Files fitting on floppies or
one large single File). Unzip the files and run setup.

Regards,
your Guardian-Team

Hi
Just download and installed the file. So, first it's frre for only 90
days evaluation period, aftrewards there's is room for registration key
and such - so much for FREE. The second is that I've tried to connect my
two DB, the product refused to connect. I use the same connection with
sql*plus, golden32, pledit, plsqldev which all work fine with the same
username, password, host string. All in all, it also take about 30
minutes to download it (3.9MB at most 1.4kBps).
That wraps it up for my opinion.

Was it necessary to cross-post this incorrect message to 5 separate
newsgroups?

It is bad to include an incorrect url:
www.voesystem.ch/download = "404 Url Not Found"
this works:
http://www.voesystem.ch/download.htm

It is worse, and not attributable to language difficulties, unfortunately,
to make a false claim *(free) when in fact the download page, reached by
a small amount of `reverse drilling` shows a different story. Bad marks
for Voe System. :(

* "90-Tage Demoversion mit uneingeschränkter Funktionalität."
* ~90-Day Demo Version with unlimited fuctionality~

Dear all,

The next two sentences go on to say "Nach Ablauf dieser Zeitspanne kann bei
uns ein kostenloser Registrierungsschlüssel bezogen werden. Ja Sie haben
richtig gelesen, ab sofort ist dieses Tool gratis für jedermann verfügbar."
which I would take to mean "At the end of this time (refering to the 90-day
period) a free registration key can be obtained from us. Yes, you read that
right, this tool is immediately available for everyone, free". Then it says
approx. "For this free version no support is offered." I'm just translating
this, not endorsing or criticising anything.

Terry.

fyi

1. free/not free
the product is really free. After the trial period, just send a mail to
get a FREE registration key.

2. you probably belong to the guys who just click around and never read
the doc. Before you can connect, you have to customize the product. all
this stuff is explained in the "Getting started" section of the doc.
the product works fine if you install it correctly. be sure to have the
OCI option installed on your Oracle client.
