Any help in developing 12-month rolling averages in Essbase 5.0 cubes
would be much appreciated. How easily can this be done?

Use the @CURRMBRRANGE function.

@CURRMBRRANGE works only for rolling averages for the period YTD, unless
you have a HUGE period dimension with more than 1 year's worth of months
(i.e. Nov97, Dec97,Jan98,Feb98, etc.). Otherwise, if Period is only by
month and a Scenario dimension has actuals, prior, TwoYearsPrior, etc.,
a more complicated formula is required to cross the Scenario dimension
and period dimension.

Try the following: as tested on your demo basic database -

creating a variable called "MMA" the following calc script seems to work.
set updatecalc off;
MMA=@AVGRANGE(SKIPNONE, Sales, @CURRMBRRANGE(Year,
LEV, 0, , 0));
I hope this answers your question.
