After uninstalling SQL Server 7 Enterprise Manager I wanted to install
the 2000 version of Enterprise Manager (not the server!). After
inserting the CD I choose SQL Server 2000 Components and then I choose
Install Database Server. The CD starts spinning for 40 seconds and the
read LED is on. But after that there's total silence ... forever.

Is there anyone who can tell me what the problem could be? I had the
same problem before uninstalling SQL Server 7 Enterprise Manager. I
have Windows XP - SP3 US English. The CD is an (original) OEM CD with
a product key.

Any help is appreciated.

is that XP HOME edition or Professional/Server edition?

IIRC, when dealing with such old stuff, you actually have to go clean
the registry and manually remove some of the entries. It was tedious,
but generally do the trick. Other than that are you sure you have a
good CD?

Hi, you mentioned that you need the Enterprise Manger (not the server)
- do you just need the Client tools?

That's correct. I only need SQL Server 7 (or higher) Enterprise
Manager which is a maintenance tool.
