Thank you in advance for all that respond : )

Hello all,

This database is for special tools. It involves checking these tools in
and out and doing maintenance on them. I have one table that has an
AutoNumber as a primary key. This works fine for entering data into the
main table, which by the way has the following info (AutoNumber; Serial
Number; Entry Date; Present Torque; Previous Torque; Location; Line
Location; Line Area Location; Maintenance Performed (Y/N); Next Maintenance
Due; Date of Maintenance Performed; Performed By; and some other
insignificant info for this question).

My problem is that I'm trying to make a table for reports that have only
the latest info per Serial Number. With the main table running a report
would mean reporting not just the latest info but the history for all the
Serial Numbers, which is okay because we use that report as well per Serial
Number ( A history report ). I've tried to use the Append Query but the
results that it turns out does not give the most recent date per Serial
Number, it does by the way give a good table of all S/Ns without duplicates.
I've tried Ascending and Descending the Entry Date, Serial Number, and
AutoNumber columns all of which have returned the same data. I've also
looked at the Date functions for most recent dates but from what I've tried
it basically gives me a bracket of info from dates I've queried which didn't
work because it still left duplicate S/Ns and in some cases didn't pick all
the S/Ns there were.

I could go through and sort out these one by one but there are about
1800 Serial Numbers (Tools), and about 14000 records. It might take a
couple more minutes than I can spare though.

Can anyone tell me how I may get over this obstacle?

PS. I'm new to Access97, as you may have guessed, as well as this news
group. From what I've read you guys (and ladies) that answer the majority
of these questions ( you know who you are) have wonderful amount of info
which I myself could not get from any book. I believe you all need to be
commended.

Thanx,

Gil
